A wonderful GPS tool (freeware) on the Internet. It is called ITNConv
You can download this freeware from http://www.benichou-software.com/
It
is intended to be an itinerary tool for GPS navigation devices.
Another equivalent tool for finding GPS co-ordinates is using Google Earth.
Another web site for finding GPS co-ordinates using Google Map API is http://www.getlatlon.com/
How to use ITNConv to find GPS co-ordinates:
double click the ITNConv.exe icon to launch, then click the Editor button, a Google map opens up.
If
you know an address, type the address in the search field and click the
"search" button (the magnifying glass icon), it will display the point
on the map.
Click "Add to Itinerary" to save this point for later manipulation. You can zoom in and out, or drag the square marker around to a new location.
The latitude and longitude (GPS co-ordinates) of the black square marker
will be displaced.
Since it has Google behind it, you can type "hotels in Vancouver BC" or "RV campground in Nanaimo BC" in the search filed and it will display all the hits with their GPS co-ordinates.
If
you don't know the address, but know the geography and its
surroundings, you can use the zoom in/zoom out features, plus the
satellite image to locate a point and find its GPS
co-ordinates. You can also use the Hybrid mode (move the mouse cursor
near the Satellite button and click Hybrid) to see the streets and roads
overlay on the satellite image to help locate a point.
For Windows 7
,
if necessary, right click on the ITNConv.EXE file and click the
compatibility tab, set it to run in "Windows 2000" compatibility
mode.
Note: Version 1.72 of ITNConv.exe seems to run fine on Windows 7 without any compatibility issues.
If
you need to convert the GPS co-ordinates to other formats (degrees
minutes seconds), you can use my on-line GPS calculator converter http://pigtail.net/nicholas/geocode.html
Google
Earth gives you co-ordinates in degrees minutes seconds, you may want
to use my on-line GPS calculator converter it to decimal.
